Job Title: UX Writer
Duration: 6+ months
Location: Hybrid (Newark, NJ)
Summary
As a member of the UX Writing Center of Excellence and the sole contributor to UX writing for Simplified Solutions, this individual is responsible for effective copy. A capacity to work in collaboration and asynchronously is essential to the time management required in this role. As the individual contributor for their team, this person is responsible for drafting marketing and instructional copy for digital experiences of an exciting new direct to customer suite of products. With a goal of providing access to new audiences for life insurance and end of life planning, you must ensure that copy remains consistent to overall strategic goals balanced with an awareness of clients brand guidelines. As client expands into global markets, the overarching goal for the UX writing practice is to scale at speed without sacrificing integrity and best practices for user-centric experiences. In addition to day-to-day collaboration with UX design partners, this candidate will regularly submit copy for review to UX Writing Manager and have active interaction with leadership for Simplified Solutions as well as the larger Business Unit for Individual Life Insurance.
The ideal candidate
- We're looking for a dynamic, passionate, UX writer with experience in content strategy who wants to increase accessibility and understanding for an expanding market for life insurance and resources for financing and documenting end of life planning. The best candidate will have the ability and desire to take complicated financial services content and translate it into simple, concise, compelling copy that inspires consumer audiences to take action. This position has ample support for guidance that should be utilized effectively, including our rigourus standards for ADA and legal compliance. Clean and consistent documentation is essential to navigate the faced paced innovation for our latest go-to-market and direct-to-consumer initiatives.
- As such this writer must possess the ability to drive and work independently, collaborate with creative and business partners to concept and execute, yet understand how to take direction respectfully including effective, informed and consistent implementation.
Responsibilities
- Develop and refine content strategies that align with user needs and business goals
- Brainstorm, strategize, and create content that promotes products and services
- Write clear, concise, and user-centric copy for various digital platforms
- Consult with cross-functional team members and creative leaders to create effective, impactful copy
- Collaborate with UX/UI designers to create wireframes and prototypes
- Partner to conduct user research and testing to inform content decisions
- Ensure creative material is well-researched, effective and consistent with goals and brand standards
- Ensure all content is consistent with brand guidelines, tone and voice
- Edit and proofread content to ensure accuracy and clarity end to end
- Present themes and concepts to key stakeholders and business partners, champion that work through to completion, document and incorporate learnings for consistency and continued improvement
- Interview business partners, senior executives, subject matter experts and stakeholders to gather the information needed to create effective business messaging
- Recognize the nuances of communicating through all media formats and converting messaging to be applicable across all media
- Meet or exceed all deadlines and deliverables
- Develop and maintain content guidelines and style guides for the experience in alignment with overall brand guidelines, particularly around voice, tone and punctuation to ensure consistency across platforms
- Strong expertise in conceiving narratives for end-to-end digital experiences and writing tight, action-oriented, jargon-free copy
- This role is embedded with UX designers and Marketing partners. The ideal candidate will need to identify where copy can carry over between like components to sync messaging for maximum impact
Mandatory skills
- Capable of crafting clear and concise copy for interface elements to guide users effectively
- Writing follow up emails and notifications to nurture and inform new and prospective clients
- Demonstrated experience writing in multiple tones, awareness and proactive approach to adjustments for target audiences and work with user personas
- Ability to write across multiple projects simultaneously at speed
- The ability to clearly articulate data driven logic for copy choices and navigate feedback from multiple partners across varying disciplines, ensuring final copy balances recommendations based on business needs and best UX Practices
- An understanding of mobile UX copy
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years working in UX writing and content strategy
- Strong portfolio showcasing writing samples which demonstrate clear strategies and effective outcomes
- Capacity to present to senior leadership and partners of other disciplines
- Demonstrated conceptual ability in digital and offline channels
- Ability to differentiate between MVP and Day 2 opportunities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
- Proficiency in FIGMA and MIRO
- Ability to consistently adhere to existing style guide and effectively communicate potential advantages of any recommended changes specific to this project or otherwise
- Detail oriented, with sound editorial judgment and ambition to deliver high quality experiences
Clear, concise and consistent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to engage partners directly to get necessary information quickly, including follow ups and escalation of blockers - Intellectual curiosity and a team-oriented, collaborative spirit
