What to Expect

The Cell Manufacturing Engineering team at Tesla is looking for a highly-motivated Manufacturing Engineer to contribute to the development and ramp of cell manufacturing equipment and processes for our cutting-edge Tesla Energy Batteries. The Battery is one of the most complex and challenging components designed and manufactured at Tesla. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to Tesla's world class manufacturing facilities. Tesla is a demanding and fast-paced environment where you will work on a critical subsystem of an incredibly exciting product. In addition to developing working on ramping the line the Manufacturing Engineer works with cross-functional teams to test, validate, and roll-out equipment to production. What You'll Do
  • Drive development of new/innovative manufacturing processes from proof of concept through to full scale production that enable improved battery performance and/orcost
  • Lead the in-house development of novel, complex, innovative, and intricate prototype manufacturing equipment for both low and high-volume lines. Manage internal and external equipment suppliers to design, install and commission production lines, ensuring successful integration on time
  • Work closely with the production team to ramp up the line, addressing any technical issues, and optimizing processes until the line runs at the desired rate
  • Plan and ExecuteDoEsto characterize boundary conditions andoptimizeprocess, establish critical process parameters and recipes for manufacturability andquality
  • Develop and manage PFMEA, DFMEArisk assessments to prioritize process improvement projects and ensure adequate metrology and controls are in place
  • Use tools like Minitab/JMP for data analysis and presentation of experimentaldata
  • Establish process controls for SPC and develop process relatedOCAPs
  • Lead product design for manufacturability (DFM),DFMEA and sustainability
  • Analysis of product design and identification of potential risks to the process
  • Run CAE/CFD simulationsto theoretically understand /De-risk new process/Equipment design changes

What You'll Bring
  • Degree inMechanicalEngineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • First Principles Thinking: A rigorous mindset focused on breaking down complex problems to their fundamental truths, enabling innovative solutions to manufacturing challenges
  • Experience: 8+ years in Manufacturing Process Engineering, Automation Engineering, preferably in automotive or high-volume component production.
  • Experience in Cell Assembly / Laser welding / metal forming /Dispensing / High Volume assembly production is preferred
  • Technical Skills: o Proficiency in GD&T, SPC, MSA, FMEA / PFMEA, Simulation, CAD, statistical process control JMP capability analysis (Cp / Cpk), and control plans
  • Knowledge of metrology systems (inline/offline)
  • In-depth knowledge of lean manufacturing principles
  • Experience with equipment buy-offs and process capability validation
  • Proven ability to manage cross-functional projects and drive supplier accountability
  • Exceptional technical writing and verbal skills to simplify complex issues

    Expected Compensation
    $91,600 - $195,600/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
