The Materials Test Unit supports the Advanced Materials Test Laboratory which performs material testing supporting primary and secondary plant development. The successful candidate would perform mechanical system and hardware design, ASME code calculations, piping flow and flexibility analyses, equipment selection and procurement, as well as maintaining and troubleshooting test systems within the Laboratories. The candidate would work with a diverse team of engineers, scientists, technicians, project managers, and vendors to deliver unique, one-of-a-kind test systems that support the Naval Reactors program.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, science field; or Currently an Advanced Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.
Preferred Skills

  • Previous work in testing facilities and infrastructure to select, maintain, and troubleshoot electro-mechanical devices (valves, pumps, heaters, heat exchangers, flow meters, pressure vessels).
  • Experience with designing, troubleshooting, and maintaining mechanical systems, particularly in support of operating fluid systems with electro-mechanical devices (valves, heaters, pumps, flowmeters, etc).
  • Applied knowledge of pressure equipment, ASME B31 series, and fluid/mechanical system design and operations in industry is a plus.
  • Motivation to pursue advances in technology, make decisions, and deliver results.
  • Experience using 3D CAD software packages to evaluate suitability of a design based on functional requirements, design codes, and constraints (budget, physical space available, interferences, etc)

Pay Range
$85,200.00 - $133,200.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
