The Manager of Benefits is responsible for the strategic oversight, design, administration, and compliance of Medica's employee benefits programs. This role ensures that benefit offerings are competitive, costeffective, and aligned with Medica's organizational goals. The Manager partners closely with HR leadership, vendors, and internal stakeholders to deliver an exceptional employee experience and support the health, financial wellness, and overall wellbeing of Medica employees. Performs other duties assigned.

Key Accountabilities



  • Evaluate and enhance benefit plan designs to ensure competitiveness, costeffectiveness, and alignment with organizational goals
  • Partner with consultants to analyze trends, pricing, and innovation opportunities
  • In partnership with consultants and vendors, analyze claims data, utilization patterns, and market benchmarks to recommend plan improvements
  • Lead the annual renewal and open enrollment processes, including communication strategy and implementation of plan changes
  • Identify opportunities to integrate wellbeing initiatives that support employee health and financial wellness
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, IRS, and other federal and state regulations
  • Oversee creation and submission of required filings (e.g., Form 5500), plan audits, SPDs/SBCs, and documentation updates
  • Maintain accurate, uptodate policies and procedures to ensure regulatory adherence
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory updates and recommend necessary changes
  • Manage relationships with carriers, brokers, thirdparty administrators, and other vendors to ensure highquality service delivery
  • Participate in and lead RFP processes
  • Partner with corporate procurement on the negotiation of benefit plan contracts, fees, and servicelevel agreements
  • Evaluate vendor performance and address issues or escalations to drive service improvements
  • Develop and deliver clear, accessible benefit communications, guides, presentations, and digital resources
  • Partner with HRBPs, the HR Service Center, and Employee Relations to resolve complex or escalated employee benefit issues
  • Promote and support wellbeing and financial wellness initiatives
  • Provide training to managers and employees on benefit programs and processes
  • Provide direction, coaching, and performance support to benefits team members
  • Establish team goals, monitor performance, and ensure timely and accurate program administration
  • Foster a culture of service excellence, accuracy, and continuous improvement
  • Support staff development and crosstraining to build functional depth


Required Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field
  • 5+ years of benefits administration experience, 1 to 4 years of leadership


Preferred Qualifications



  • CEBS, SHRM-CP/SCP or similar certifications


Skills and Abilities



  • Knowledge of benefits laws and compliance; vendor management; strong analytical skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal partners and external vendors
  • Detailoriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to quickly adapt to change and work independently
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills


This position is an Office role, which requires an employee to work onsite at our Minnetonka, MN office, on average, 3 days per week.

The full salary grade for this position is $100,300 - $172,000. While the full salary grade is provided, the typical hiring salary range for this role is expected to be between $100,300 - $150,465. Annual salary range placement will depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, education, work experience, applicable certifications and/or licensure, the position's scope and responsibility, internal pay equity and external market salary data. In addition to base compensation, this position may be eligible for incentive plan compensation in addition to base salary.
