Roles and Responsibilities

The Household Goods Scheduler is responsible for coordinating, scheduling, and optimizing regional household goods shipments to support service quality, cost efficiency, and operational reliability. This role manages daily network capacity, builds effective load plans, and proactively addresses service disruptions or resource constraints. The planner operates with a strong level of independence, applies analytical judgment, and contributes to process improvements that enhance performance across the agent network.

Load Planning, Capacity Management & Optimization



  • Develop load plans that optimize trailer utilization, minimize empty miles, and support profitability goals.
  • Combine shipments into safe, compliant, and efficient loads Usinger operational data and geographical knowledge.
  • Analyze capacity trends and recommend routing or consolidation strategies to improve service and reduce cost.
  • Maintain accurate, timely updates in transportation management systems.

Service Performance & Operational Oversight



  • Monitor shipment progress and ensure loads meet service commitments and customer expectations.
  • Resolve scheduling conflicts, distressed shipments, equipment shortages, or overflow situations.
  • Collaborate with agents and drivers to maintain compliance with safety, regulatory, and company guidelines.
  • Identify recurring issues and provide recommendations for operational improvements.

Network Relationships & Cross-Functional Collaboration



  • Build strong working relationships with the van line agent network to secure capacity and streamline planning workflows.
  • Partner with internal teams such as dispatch, non-conventional operations, and safety to support service outcomes.
  • Communicate changes, risks, and updates clearly and proactively to all stakeholders.

Continuous Improvement & Special Assignments



  • Recommend improvements to enhance planning accuracy, reduce waste, or strengthen data consistency.
  • Participate in initiatives related to network optimization, seasonal planning, or operational enhancements.
  • Contribute operational insight to cross-functional projects or task groups.



Qualifications and preferred skills (Qualifications, Skills, Education or Certification Requirements, etc.)



Education/Certification Requirements



  • High School Diploma Required
  • Bachelor's degree in business, logistics, supply chain management, a related field preferred, OR an equivalent operational experience.


Qualifications and Experience Requirements



  • 2-5 years of experience in transportation, logistics, or household goods operations.
  • Strong understanding of load planning, routing, capacity management, or related operational processes.
  • Analytical ability to interpret data and assess financial or service impacts.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and transportation management systems.
  • Effective communication and relationship building skill across internal and external partners.
  • Strong prioritization, problem solving, and independent decision-making skills.

  • Position Title: Scheduler
  • Salary Range: $19.23/hr-$24.04/hr
