Position Overview

dormakaba is seeking a Firmware Engineer Intern based in Indianapolis, IN. The Firmware Engineer Intern is responsible for assisting senior firmware engineers with coding tasks. Examples include updating existing firmware modules to work within embedded RTOS ("Real-Time Operating Systems), organizing existing code base for migration, designing unit tests, documentation of firmware functionality, and independent firmware development projects.

HIRING SALARY RANGE: Base Salary $ 21.00-$25.00 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) Please visit our career site for more information on benefits.

What you will do

  • Work alongside senior firmware and hardware developers to improve existing code, deliver new features, and migrate legacy code to updated microcontrollers and RTOS.
  • Use tools like Git, Bitbucket, IAR, and more to organize and develop firmware.
  • Build an understanding of embedded development for security critical products.
  • Utilize AI coding tools to assist in your development work.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to documentation of firmware functionality.
What we require
  • Background / pursuit of a degree in Computer Science, Electrical, or Computer Engineering.
  • Proficiency in C/C++.
  • Experience with software testing methodologies and practices.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

What we prefer

  • Experience with Git/Bitbucket version control systems.
  • Experience with embedded development and related tools.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics.
  • Knowledge of hardware/software integration.
  • Familiarity with RTOS concepts.
