Anatomic Pathology Specialist - Procedural & Laboratory Operations

We are seeking a highly organized and self-directed Anatomic Pathology Specialist to play a critical role in supporting procedural workflows and laboratory operations across Cytology, Histology, and Pathology services. Working under the guidance of the AP Supervisor, this role functions with a high degree of independence while serving as a key liaison between procedural teams, laboratory staff, and providers.

Role Overview

This position is integral to ensuring efficient specimen flow, timely diagnostics, and seamless coordination between clinical and laboratory teams. The Specialist supports advanced procedures, contributes to regulatory readiness, and helps drive operational excellence in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently coordinate and perform specimen collection, handling, and distribution for Cytology, Histology, and Pathology services

  • Provide procedural support for GI EUS, FNA, and Surgical OR cases across multiple departments

  • Respond to urgent GI Clinic procedures as needed, ensuring timely specimen processing

  • Collaborate with cytologists, histologists, and pathologists to maintain quality standards and turnaround times

  • Support Joint Commission survey readiness and regulatory compliance initiatives

  • Assist with data tracking, reporting, and basic statistical analysis to support departmental performance

  • Maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring cleanliness, safety compliance, and operational readiness

  • Perform clerical and administrative functions including documentation, reporting, and record management

  • Operate independently with minimal supervision, exercising sound judgment and prioritization

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 1-2 years of experience in Anatomic Pathology

  • Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills

  • Working knowledge of hospital operations and laboratory functions

  • Proficiency in clerical processes, computer systems, and troubleshooting

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a medical, science, or healthcare-related field

  • 3-5 years of experience in a fast-paced, full-service hospital laboratory

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy

  • Experience in cytology or histology
