Job Title: Cloud Onshore Engineer

Location(s): Dallas, TX

Job Description
Must Have:

• Recent 5+ yrs experience in engineering/development using Chef, terraform and Ansible.
• Recent 2-3 yrs experience in engineering/development using Python, bash.
• Overall AWS 7+ yrs - with Linux skills.

• Develop and maintain Chef cookbooks/recipes to enforce OS baseline configuration.
• Write/test Chef code (Ruby DSL) with appropriate structure, attributes, templates, and data bags.
• Maintain Chef policy (Policyfiles / environments / roles depending on org standards).
• Implement idempotent, reusable patterns; handle secrets appropriately (vault/secret stores).
• Automate onboarding of new Linux builds to Chef (bootstrap, node configuration, compliance).
• Golden Image / AMI / Cloud Image Engineering (Monthly cadence)
• Own monthly golden image lifecycle:
  • Base image updates, patching, hardening updates.
  • Validate against functional/security requirements.
  • Versioning/tagging and deprecation of old images.
• Build/maintain AWS AMIs for multiple accounts/regions (share/copy/permissions).
• Build/maintain Azure managed images / Shared Image Gallery versions (publish/replicate).
• Ensure images include required agents (monitoring, security, EDR, vulnerability scanning, SSM/Azure extensions as required).
• Maintain image documentation and release notes per monthly release.

• Develop and maintain Terraform modules:
  • AWS: EC2 launch templates, ASGs, IAM instance profiles, security groups, EBS settings, tagging standards.
  • Azure: resource groups, VM/VMSS, managed identities, NIC/NSG, image references via SIG.
• Create reusable modules with variables/outputs, versioning, and secure defaults.
• Integrate Terraform deployments with CI/CD pipelines, remote state, and approvals.

• Integrate image builds and IaC workflows into pipelines (e.g., Jenkins/GitHub Actions/Azure DevOps as applicable).
• Implement testing and validation:
  • Chef unit/integration tests (Test Kitchen/InSpec where used).
  • Image validation (boot, package checks, agent health, compliance checks).
  • Terraform linting/format/validate, policy controls (if used).
