Position Title: Phlebotomist II

Work Location: 2400 Belvidere Road, Waukegan, IL

Duration: 3-Month Contract (Potential for Conversion)

Work Arrangement: Onsite

Work Schedule:



  • Monday to Thursday: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
  • Every other Friday: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

    OR
  • Every other Saturday: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM


Position Summary

The Phlebotomist II will perform blood draws, specimen collection, and processing in a patient service setting. This role also includes troubleshooting, training support, and workflow improvement recommendations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture using straight and butterfly needles
  • Collect, label, centrifuge, split, and store specimens per protocol
  • Match laboratory requisitions with specimen tubes accurately
  • Explain specimen collection procedures clearly to patients
  • Package and prepare specimens for transport while maintaining integrity
  • Maintain proper storage conditions for all specimens
  • Update patient information and maintain accurate records
  • Perform equipment maintenance, decontamination, and record logs
  • Follow OSHA and DEP regulations
  • Handle patient inquiries and answer calls as needed
  • Perform blood draws and specimen processing in an IOP setting


Qualifications & Experience

Education:



  • High School Diploma or GED


Experience:



  • 2-4 years of experience preferred
  • Minimum 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting


Certifications:



  • Valid Phlebotomy certification (as required by state)


Skills & Competencies

  • Strong phlebotomy and specimen handling skills
  • Ability to perform difficult draws independently
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Flexibility and ability to work in a team environment


Working Conditions

  • Majority of shift spent standing (with 30-minute unpaid break)
  • Large IOP setting with a 4-person team
  • Initial 2 weeks of training and orientation (nearby location)


Additional Information

  • Full-time: 40 hours/week
  • Daily volume: 25-30 draws (pediatrics and adults)
  • Vaccines required: T-DAP, Varicella, MMR, Flu, TB (Hep B optional)
  • Color vision screening required
  • FIT test provided
  • Strong customer service skills and pediatric experience preferred
