Position Title: Phlebotomist II Work Location: 2400 Belvidere Road, Waukegan, IL Duration: 3-Month Contract (Potential for Conversion) Work Arrangement: Onsite Work Schedule: Monday to Thursday: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Every other Friday: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM OR Every other Saturday: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Position Summary The Phlebotomist II will perform blood draws, specimen collection, and processing in a patient service setting. This role also includes troubleshooting, training support, and workflow improvement recommendations. Key Responsibilities Perform venipuncture using straight and butterfly needles Collect, label, centrifuge, split, and store specimens per protocol Match laboratory requisitions with specimen tubes accurately Explain specimen collection procedures clearly to patients Package and prepare specimens for transport while maintaining integrity Maintain proper storage conditions for all specimens Update patient information and maintain accurate records Perform equipment maintenance, decontamination, and record logs Follow OSHA and DEP regulations Handle patient inquiries and answer calls as needed Perform blood draws and specimen processing in an IOP setting Qualifications & Experience Education: High School Diploma or GED Experience: 2-4 years of experience preferred Minimum 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting Certifications: Valid Phlebotomy certification (as required by state) Skills & Competencies Strong phlebotomy and specimen handling skills Ability to perform difficult draws independently Strong customer service and communication skills Attention to detail and accuracy Proficiency with Microsoft Office Flexibility and ability to work in a team environment Working Conditions Majority of shift spent standing (with 30-minute unpaid break) Large IOP setting with a 4-person team Initial 2 weeks of training and orientation (nearby location) Additional Information Full-time: 40 hours/week Daily volume: 25-30 draws (pediatrics and adults) Vaccines required: T-DAP, Varicella, MMR, Flu, TB (Hep B optional) Color vision screening required FIT test provided Strong customer service skills and pediatric experience preferred
