We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.

About the Role

Blue Origin is seeking a Senior Power Conversion Engineer to design and develop power electronics hardware supporting a new generation of advanced power systems. You'll own power conversion hardware from topology selection through detailed design, prototyping, test, and field support - working shoulder-to-shoulder with electromagnetic design, controls, and mechanical engineers on a small, high-ownership team.

What You'll Do

  • Design power electronic converter/inverter topologies for advanced power equipment

  • Select and size power semiconductor devices (Si, SiC, GaN), gate drive circuitry, and magnetics (inductors, transformers)

  • Perform electrical stress, thermal, and reliability analysis of power conversion hardware

  • Develop control strategies and interfaces for power conversion systems in coordination with the controls team

  • Design and review schematics, PCB layouts, and power stage packaging

  • Build and test prototype hardware, including bench and full-scale validation

  • Support root-cause investigation and design iteration based on test data

  • Produce design documentation, test procedures, and specifications to support procurement, build, and qualification

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, plus 8+ years of relevant experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

  • Demonstrated experience designing power electronics hardware (converters, inverters, exciters, or similar)

  • Strong fundamentals in power semiconductor devices, magnetics design, and thermal management of power electronics

  • Experience with circuit simulation tools (e.g., PLECS, PSIM, LTspice, Simulink) and/or PCB design tools

  • Experience taking power electronics hardware from concept through detailed design, build, and test

  • Must be able to comply with U.S. export control regulations, which may require U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident status

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with a power electronics focus

  • Experience with wide-bandgap semiconductors (SiC/GaN)

  • Familiarity with applicable industry power systems interface standards

  • Experience with power hardware test setups, including safety planning for electrical test

  • Experience in aerospace, energy, or other highly regulated/high-reliability industries

Physical Requirements

Ability to work in an office and lab/manufacturing environment, including occasional exposure to hardware test areas; may require standing, bending, lifting up to 25 lbs, and use of PPE.
