Job Summary
The Associate Director for Research Advancement plays a pivotal role in advancing the research enterprise at The University of Texas at Dallas by leading multiple high-impact projects and strategic programs. This position is responsible for planning, executing, and managing initiatives designed to strengthen the university's research profile.
Working in close partnership with faculty, industry collaborators, and the broader campus community, the Associate Director develops and advances strategic programs that support growth, interdisciplinary collaboration, and external engagement. This role serves as a conduit across research, academic, and industry stakeholders to further shared goals and enhance the visibility and impact of research initiatives at UT Dallas.
Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in a related field; 5-7 years related professional experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale projects, initiatives, and programs from conception through execution, with a demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality outcomes for stakeholders.
  • Strong project management expertise, including the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt effectively to changing circumstances.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to build productive relationships and collaborate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including direct supervision and development of professional staff.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced, high-profile environment.
  • Creative and strategic thinker with a strong interest in higher education, research advancement, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Five or more years of progressive experience in project planning, coordination, and execution.
  • Proficiency with project management platforms, analytics tools, and the Microsoft Office Suite.

Other Qualifications
To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide collaborative, team-focused leadership and professional expertise in the planning, development, and execution of strategic initiatives for the Office of Research and Innovation, while supporting and helping direct the day-to-day activities of the Research Advancement team.
  • Lead the planning and execution of high-impact initiatives that highlight the innovative research and scholarly activity of faculty and researchers.
  • Guide projects through the full planning lifecycle, including programming, budget coordination, event execution, marketing, evaluation, and follow-up.
  • Develop and implement programs that strengthen engagement with industry partners, funding agencies, the campus community, and external audiences.
  • Design and oversee strategic initiatives aligned with institutional research priorities and long-term objectives.
  • Collaborate across academic and administrative units to align research advancement initiatives with broader university goals.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure effective coordination and seamless execution of programs and initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain high professional standards for all programs and activities, consistent with the image, reputation, and expectations of the Office of Research and Innovation.
  • Evaluate existing processes and programs, analyze feedback and outcomes, and recommend and implement improvements to enhance effectiveness and stakeholder experience.
  • Participate in formal and informal needs assessments to identify strategic opportunities and recommend appropriate actions, training, or program enhancements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation is required.
  • Position requires extended periods of standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required during peak activity periods.
