Position Summary
The Information Technology Technical Associate - IT Support Services 1 (IT Support Specialist) provides network and computer support for the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences, including its satellite offices. This role manages and maintains the department's network infrastructure, including data and voice connections, cabling, wireless access, remote connectivity, and hardware configuration.

The IT Support Specialist also provides daily technical support to faculty and staff. Responsibilities include purchasing and installing computer hardware, installing and maintaining operating systems and applications, configuring printers, performing system upgrades, removing viruses, and assisting users with general IT issues.

This position maintains the department's accounting server running Priority Software. The IT Support Specialist also serves as the department's primary Unit Security Contact (USC), ensuring users have appropriate access to Banner.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Infrastructure & Systems Management
  • Manage and maintain departmental servers and Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices.
  • Oversee system performance, backups, updates, and data integrity.
  • Maintain static IP address assignments and related network configuration tools.
  • Manage and support remote access solutions, including virtual private network (VPN) configuration and
    access control.
  • Administer Ophthalmology's VPN group membership and permissions.

Desktop & End-User Support
  • Provide Desktop support for faculty, staff, and research personnel.
  • Install, configure, and maintain desktop and laptop systems (Windows and/or macOS).
  • Deploy and support software applications required for research and administrative operations.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, network connectivity, and peripheral issues.
  • Support remote users with secure access and troubleshooting.
  • Coordinate onboarding and offboarding IT setup (equipment purchasing, provisioning, & access
    configuration).
  • Provide support for printers, scanners, and other networked devices.

Unit Security Contact (USC)
  • Serve as the primary Unit Security Contact (USC) for Banner and other enterprise systems.
  • Manage and review Banner access requests in compliance with university IT security policies.
  • Ensure adherence to institutional cybersecurity standards.
  • Monitor user access rights and implement corrective actions when necessary.

Active Directory & Access Control
  • Manage Active Directory accounts and group policies.
  • Control and monitor file permissions for shared drives and secure folders.
  • Provision and deprovision user accounts in accordance with university policies.
  • Maintain shared calendars for research and administrative teams.
  • Manage shared departmental email accounts (e.g., TS accounts).
  • Serve as Listserv Administrator for departmental distribution groups.
  • Oversee PbUpdate processes.

User Support & Technical Services
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting for network connectivity and access issues.
  • Support faculty, staff, and research personnel with secure access to departmental systems.
  • Submit IT Service Desk tickets, Access Request Forms (ARF), & Learning Management System (LMS) as
  • needed to support departmental operations.
  • Maintain documentation of system configurations and procedures.
  • Oversee Department's telecommunication.
  • Assist with IT planning and infrastructure improvements.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications Required:

  1. Bachelor Degree within Computer Science or closely related field of study
  2. Minimum 1 years of professional IT experience within IT Support Services which includes demonstrated experience providing end-user technical and troubleshooting support with computer hardware, software and classroom technologies within desktop and networking environments via, telephone, ticketing systems and/or onsite resolution.
