Marketing Specialist

Gensler New York is looking for a Marketing Specialist who can bridge high-level strategy and high-impact production - someone whose thinking, judgment, relationships, and expertise can help shape how we pursue and win the work that matters most.

At Gensler, marketers are valued not only for what they produce, but for what they bring to the table: the questions they ask, the ideas they raise, the relationships they build, and the way they sharpen how we tell our story.

As a Marketing Specialist in our New York Work sector, you will partner with principals, studio leaders, designers, strategists, and fellow marketers to influence pursuit strategy, develop compelling client narratives, and position Gensler for high-impact work across financial services, professional services, legal, technology, media, and other industries.

This role is part strategist, part storyteller, and part conductor. You will synthesize what a client is trying to accomplish, help sharpen the team's strategy, and build the narrative that makes our case clear, differentiated, and memorable.

You will work with a global network of marketers, based out of the largest design office in the world, with access to Gensler's research and thought leadership platforms - including the firm's Workplace Survey and global benchmarking data - to ground stories in real insight. The work is fast-paced and rarely the same twice: a flagship financial services headquarters one week, a global media campus the next, an AI hub the week after.

This role is ideal for a marketer ready to step into broader influence - through established paths like practice-area or sector specialization, or through new ones shaped by individual strengths, emerging business needs, and the evolving ways our clients and teams work.

You'll join one of the firm's largest marketing teams - 15 marketers and communications specialists in NYC supporting work across 33 practice areas. The team brings a high level of craft, rigor, and generosity to the work. You'll work closely with them, collaborate daily, and build the kind of dynamic that only forms inside a team that takes its work seriously.

In year one, you will lead pursuits, shape win strategy, and build trusted relationships with senior leaders. By year three, you'll be a recognized voice in how the studio competes - influencing positioning, storytelling, content strategy, and business development direction. From there, the path opens in multiple directions: deeper practice-area or sector leadership, regional and firmwide initiatives, content and thought leadership, client strategy, or new areas that are becoming essential in our constantly evolving market.

At Gensler, we bring the scale, complexity, and support to help strong marketers specialize, lead, or build new lanes where their interests, capabilities, and the firm's needs intersect.

Your Role

The Ideal candidate has spent 6-10 years perfecting their skills at writing proposals, designing decks, managing the intricacies, and learning how to tell whether a story will land.

Now, you are looking for the challenge that comes after competency: strategy conversations, client relationships, firm influence, and the chance to shape how a major design firm goes to market. You want a team where senior marketers function as senior marketers - not just senior producers - and where your judgment is asked for and acted on.

You are a strong writer with sharp visual instincts. You are calm under pressure because you have been there. You ask the questions others do not think to ask, and you would rather be stretched than safely bored. You thrive on collaboration, mentoring others, sharpening ideas with the team, and asking, "Is there a better way to do this?" You are curious about new tools, alert to where technology can give the team an edge and energized by brainstorming smarter ways to work.

What You Will Do

  • Partner with principals, studio leaders, and design teams to shape pursuit strategy, develop compelling client narratives, and position the firm for high-impact opportunities across multiple industries

  • Lead the development of proposals, presentations, and business development materials that clearly communicate differentiated ideas, research insights, and design expertise

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to influence go-to-market strategy, strengthen client relationships, and drive winning pursuit outcomes

  • Synthesize client goals, market insights, and firm capabilities into clear, strategic storytelling that supports business growth and brand positioning

  • Work cross-functionally with marketers, strategists, and designers to elevate content quality, improve team processes, and identify smarter, more innovative ways of working

  • Contribute to a collaborative marketing team culture through idea-sharing, mentorship, and continuous refinement of storytelling, content strategy, and pursuit best practices

Your Qualifications

  • 6+ years of marketing experience at an architecture, interior design, engineering, real estate services, design consultancy, or AEC-adjacent firm.

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Marketing, Graphic Design, Communications, Journalism, Business, or a related field.

  • Proven ability to lead pursuits start-to-finish, including strategy, proposal development, stakeholder coordination, BD conversations, and development of win strategies.

  • Strong writing, editing, storytelling, and visual communication skills.

  • Collaborative relationship-builder who can work effectively with principals, designers, strategists, marketers, and cross-functional teams.

  • Mastery of Adobe InDesign; proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, and Microsoft Office.

  • Learning mindset - curious about emerging tools and technologies, open to new ways of working, and motivated to keep evolving how insight, creativity, and strategy come together.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience across multiple practice areas or design sectors.

  • Direct experience with financial services, legal, technology, media, or other workplace client pursuits.

  • Familiarity with Adobe Premiere, Google Slides, Miro, or AI-enabled creative/workflow tools.

  • Please submit a cover letter, resume, and portfolio. The cover letter should address the key characteristics highlighted in the position description and should communicate the reasons why your skillset and background are ideal for this role.
