Job Summary

The Milling Machine Machinist I is responsible for setting up and operating manual and/or CNC milling machines to produce precision aerospace components in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications. This role requires independent machine setup, interpretation of blueprints, selection of tooling, and execution of machining operations to meet tight tolerances. The machinist supports tooling operations within an aerospace manufacturing environment and ensures all work is completed safely, accurately, and in compliance with quality standards.

Job Responsibilities



  • Set up and operate horizontal, vertical, universal, and/or CNC milling machines to perform precision machining operations.
  • Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, sketches, and specifications to determine machining methods and sequences.
  • Select, mount, and align tooling, fixtures, and machine attachments for each job.
  • Determine and adjust speeds, feeds, depth of cut, and machining parameters.
  • Perform machining operations such as contouring, boring angular holes, helical and spiral milling, serrating, and cutting gears, splines, and keyways.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points for machining accuracy.
  • Use precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, and other machinist tools to verify tolerances.
  • Perform machining setups independently and ensure proper execution of operations.
  • Monitor quality and verify conformance to specifications using inspection and measurement tools.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in compliance with safety standards.
  • Perform moderate to strenuous physical tasks including lifting, bending, kneeling, and overhead work.
  • Work across multiple shifts as required to support production needs.


Job Requirements



  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of a formal machining apprenticeship or equivalent training/experience preferred.
  • Experience operating manual and/or CNC milling machines required.
  • Ability to perform machine setups and determine machining sequences independently.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers.
  • Strong understanding of machining principles, tolerances, and tooling.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work including lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to work any shift as required.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.


Work Experience



  • Prior machining or milling machine experience required.
  • Aerospace, tool and die, or tooling department experience preferred.
  • Experience in precision manufacturing environments preferred.


Education



  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Apprenticeship or formal machining training preferred.
