Position: Research Assistant

Department: Research - Infectious Diseases

Schedule: Full Time, Temporary

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Cooperation Education Program (Co-op) allows students to integrate classroom learning with paid work terms directly related to their field of study. In this position, you will receive work site training supervised by a manager or experienced worker. You willlearn on-the-job and putyour knowledge and skills to practice in a positive, professional manner, adhering to hospital policies, following safety rules and regulations and striving for a positive work experience.

About the Co-op: Our lab seeks to investigate and improve the care of individuals with or at risk for infections including HIV and hepatitis C. We work closely with individuals with substance use disorders, many of whom are unstably housed. The research assistant (RA) will be working on the CHORUS+ study, which aims to initiate people who inject opioids on HIV preventative medication, HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), with the support of a peer recovery coach. JOB RESPONSBILITIES:

The RA is a vital member of the team providing flexibility and support to research assistants and recovery coaches. The essential responsibilities, as assigned by the program manager, are:


  • Screening potential participants for enrollment into the study

  • Participant outreach and scheduling

  • Review of Boston Medical Center's clinic schedule to identify patients who might be eligible for the study

  • Transporting samples to be processed by laboratory medicine

  • Assist with project documentation

  • Assist with participant compensation

  • Support team meetings (note taking, etc.)

  • Maintain and update regulatory files

  • Maintain project records and facilitate adherence to established timelines

  • Supply tracking and preparation

  • Support the team with dissemination of research findings


JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION

  • Position requires current enrollment in the Northeastern University Co-operative Education Program as a sophomore, junior or senior.

EXPERIENCE:


  • The ideal candidate will have experience working with communities served by BMC

  • Working with people who inject drugs

  • People experiencing unstable housing

  • Understand the basis of harm reduction.

  • Experience working in human subjects research is ideal but not required.

  • Applicants should be available to work during regular business hours.

COMPENSATION RANGE: $15.00 - $20.00/hr
