Job Description
The Flight Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the accurate preparation, assembly, and delivery of meals, beverages, and equipment for airline flights. Acting as the key liaison between the production, dispatch, and logistics teams, the Flight Coordinator ensures all flight specifications are met, including special meal requests, correct equipment setup, and adherence to food safety standards. This role plays a critical part in ensuring on time and error-free flight departures with a focus on quality, compliance, and customer satisfaction. Essential Functions * Review daily flight schedules and coordinate catering requirements based on airline specifications and service levels.
* Ensure all flight components-including meals, beverages, and equipment-are prepared, assembled, and delivered according to flight manifests and customer standards. * Verify accuracy of special meal requests (e.g., vegetarian, kosher, halal) and ensure correct quantities are included for each flight. * Oversee and validate the setup of airline carts using specific diagrams and airline guidelines. * Monitor and confirm the correct number and type of meals assigned to each flight based on catering figures and passenger counts. * Perform final flight checks to ensure completeness and accuracy before dispatching. * Coordinate with dispatchers and loading teams to resolve any discrepancies or last-minute changes. * Record and review cart temperatures in accordance with HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) guidelines to ensure food safety compliance. * Assist in the preparation of premium cabin setups (e.g., first-class and business-class) as needed. * Serve as the point of contact for internal departments regarding flight coordination, timelines, and service issues. Screening Requirements * Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
* Must complete a Port Authority Background Check. * Must be eligible and maintain Customs Seal and TSA (Transportation Security Administration) clearance. Skills & Qualifications * Must be at least 18 years of age. * Proficient in reading, writing, and communicating clearly in English. * Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred. * Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. * Ability to follow detailed procedures and airline-specific requirements. * Effective problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. * Basic understanding of food safety standards and quality control practices preferred. * Prior experience in airline catering, food manufacturing, or logistics is a plus. Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Work Environment This position is located in a food manufacturing facility and involves working in areas that may be cold, hot, humid, or noisy. The environment includes exposure to strong food odors, allergens, and moving equipment. Employees must follow strict sanitation and safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Work may take place on wet or slippery surfaces. Schedules may include overtime, weekends, or holidays based on operational needs. Physical Demands The physical requirements for this position may include, but are not limited to: * Standing/Walking: Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods, often on concrete or other hard surfaces.
* Lifting/Carrying: Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull objects up to 25 lbs. (occasionally more with assistance or equipment). * Repetitive Motions: Use of hands and arms for repetitive tasks such as packing, sorting, or operating machinery. * Reaching/Bending: Frequent reaching overhead, bending, stooping, and crouching throughout the shift. * Manual Dexterity: Use of fine motor skills for tasks requiring precision and coordination, such as operating controls or using small tools. * Climbing: Occasionally climb ladders or stairs to access equipment or elevated workstations. * Visual Requirements: Ability to visually inspect products, labels, or equipment for quality and safety standards. * Auditory Requirements: Ability to hear alarms, machine sounds, and verbal communication in a noisy environment. * PPE Use: Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (e.g., gloves, hair nets, earplugs, safety glasses, steel-toe boots) for the duration of the shift. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Standard hours and days of work may vary based on production schedules and operational needs, including flight schedules. Evening, weekends, and holiday work may be required, as well as occasional overtime.
