Position Summary

The Associate Director, Private Cloud Services provides leadership and operational management for the University's on-premises infrastructure. This role is responsible for overseeing the specialized teams dedicated to Hardware, Backup, Storage, and VMware virtualization. The Associate Director ensures the high availability, security, and scalability of the private cloud environment that supports mission-critical enterprise applications. As a technical leader, the incumbent manages the lifecycle of physical and virtual assets, develops service-level agreements (SLAs), and aligns private cloud capabilities with the University's broader hybrid cloud strategy. The Manager is responsible for professional development, resource allocation, and fostering a culture of technical excellence within their direct reports.


Qualifications

Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Preferred Education:
Master's Degree in Computer Science or Management.

Required Experience:
7+ years of relevant technical experience in infrastructure management, with a focus on hardware, storage, and virtualization. and Minimum of 3 years of experience directly managing technical teams, including performance management, resource allocation, and staff development.

Preferred Experience:
Experience managing both full-time employees (FTEs) and contractor IT professionals specifically within a Higher Education or large-scale research environment. Specific operational knowledge of hardware platforms including Cisco UCS, Dell PowerEdge, and HP infrastructure. Advanced experience with Software-Defined Storage and Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI). Experience implementing automation within a private cloud environment (e.g., vRealize, Ansible, or PowerCLI).

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Advanced knowledge of the VMware SDDC stack (vSphere, vCenter, ESXi) and enterprise Storage systems (SAN, NAS, iSCSI, Fiber Channel). Operational Management: Strong experience managing the lifecycle of Server Hardware (Physical blades/racks) and enterprise Backup products (e.g., Veeam, Commvault). Networking & Security: Deep understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, VLANs, and load balancing in a virtualized environment.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Professional certifications such as VMware Certified Professional (VCP), Veeam Certified Engineer (VMCE), or ITIL Foundation. Specific knowledge of high-availability configurations for enterprise-level storage arrays and fiber channel fabric management. Must be able to strictly follow and enforce data privacy and security procedures for data handling and analysis to ensure adherence to legal (e.g., FERPA, HIPAA) and institutional standards.


Additional Information

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $160,000.00 to USD $180,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
