STATUS: Exempt

MISSION STATEMENT:

QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or closely related field required
  • Background in community relations activities, budgeting, program development & fundraising
  • Minimum seven years supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to manage, engage, motivate, and discipline staff.
  • Ability to work independently & efficiently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to motivate others
  • Must be able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Must possess a clear understanding of the problems and needs of the poor and homeless, the government and other programs available to assist them and how to determine those who would benefit most from The Salvation Army programs.
  • Extensive knowledge of the target population and applicable Salvation Army policies and procedures preferred.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude, with ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.
  • Able to maintain a non-judgmental attitude, professional approach and boundaries with staff and clients
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Computer literate in WS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, local social service software (i.e. HMIS system) and TSA Social Service software
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Maintain CPR/First Aid certification
  • Must have a valid AZ driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass annual Fleet Safety certification via TSA e-learning module.
  • Must be able to travel extensively throughout the SW Division


RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Supervise extension area representatives & all personnel, delegate responsibility, & coordinate workflow.
  • Implement the Service Extension program of The Salvation Army to meet community needs.
  • Administer the program in accordance with existing policy and administrative decisions and procedures.
  • Establish committees to service newly developed areas.
  • Maintain existing committees, securing replacements for members, as needed.
  • Supervise committees in the planning and executive of all program elements.
  • Provide direction, administrative guidance and resource information.
  • Serve on community planning and fundraising groups where such identification is beneficial to the community and the work of The Salvation Army.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled Service Unit area-wide meetings.
  • Provide material, motivational ideas, and program support to enhance education and achieve improvement in member involvement.
  • Consult with United Way representatives where applicable and budget committees regarding The Salvation Army support needs.
  • Relate to other local community health and welfare organizations so as to make known the availability of The Salvation Army services and provide direction to the local unit regarding the extent of available emergency welfare assistance regional and statewide services.
  • Give oversight to and assist with preparation of budgets and budget control, banking, financial and statistical reports to all extension areas.
  • Arrange for participation of youth and adults in Camp programs, including financial arrangements, transportation, etc.
  • Initiate and conduct special fund-raising appeals as may be required and permissible in collaboration with the Divisional Development Department.
  • Manage all details associated with the annual Christmas kettle appeal.
  • Work in conjunction with the Divisional Public Relations Director to maintain a constant flow of public relations information and material to news media and other community sources.
  • Represent and speak on behalf of The Salvation Army and their work when assigned.
  • Maintain adequate record of all office correspondence, expenses, disbursements and statistics.
  • Maintain an adequate daily log of appointments and projects and submit regular monthly reports to Divisional Secretary and the Divisional Commander.
  • Maintain the required documentation of all Service Extension committee members. Inform Divisional Headquarters of all changes, additions, deletions, and corrections.
  • Conduct bi-annual evaluations of the effectiveness of the individual Service Extension units.
  • Be readily available to assist with any other departmental duties, special projects, programs or services.
  • Protect at all times the name of The Salvation Army and advise the Divisional Secretary where any action of an individual group, organization or community may be detrimental to the highest standard of our service to people. Maintain The Salvation Army image in each community.
  • Develop & maintain a Service Extension Unit operations manual to include definitions, explanations, procedures, all forms and guidelines for service.
  • Develop a multi-level training program for all Service Extension unit members who would include Salvation Army history, policies, purpose, committee development fundraising, etc.
  • Develop a plan, where appropriate, for identifying areas navigating towards the possibility of becoming a Corps.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must have the ability to operate telephone, a desktop or laptop computer, as well as the ability to access and produce information from a computer, and to understand written information.
