Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Chancellor's Science Scholars Program is at the forefront of efforts to increase diversity among future leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics ( STEM) and related fields. Created in 2013, the program supports a diverse group of high-achieving undergraduate students who have an interest in pursuing a PhD or combined MD/PhD in STEM and an interest in the advancement of underrepresented minorities in the sciences and related fields.- Work with other program staff, Executive Director, Registrar's Office, and faculty to coordinate course requests.
Position Summary
The CSS Resident Mentor is responsible for supporting the transition and residential experience of incoming Chancellor's Science Scholars during the summer program. Resident Mentors live in the residence hall alongside participants and serve in a role similar to a residential assistant, providing guidance, mentorship, and community support as students acclimate college life. In addition to fostering a positive living environment, Resident Mentors will plan and facilitate one community-building event per week to encourage engagement and connection among scholars. Participation in a required training session prior to the start of the program is mandatory to ensure preparedness for the role.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Management Preferences
Experience leading group activities.
Ability to communicate expectations, policies, and procedures to others.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
