University Career Services serves to educate students on career development and management processes, teach students about competencies needed for success, and make connections between students and employers.
UCS collaborates with faculty, employers, and other departments across campus for mutual sharing of information and coordination of programs for student development. |
| Position Summary |
The
UNC Career Center (formerly University Career Services (
UCS)) is housed within Academic Excellence, in the Division of Student Success. The
UNC Career Center is committed to providing students with high-quality career education and hands-on learning experiences that prepare them for career success. The Associate Director of Career Training & Academic Partnerships (
CTAP) leads the development, implementation, and assessment of embedding career competencies across the academic and co-curricular student experiences, champions career-integrated learning experiences, develops faculty partnerships, and leads career training programs for the
UNC career community, alumni, and parents. This role coordinates across academic and administrative units as part of Academic Excellence to create career courses, identifies potential instructors, and develops career-related course material for faculty.
Under the direction of the Director of Career Education, the Associate Director of
CTAP serves as a university-wide leader on career training & development, career competencies, and teaching career content. This role acts as a connector across the university - and the
UNC career community - to facilitate relationships, grow support for key initiatives and partnerships, and drive results.
Key elements of the role include, but are not limited to, the following:
Leading career course development, instructor selection & training, overseeing the design, approval, and continuous improvement of credit-bearing career courses that align with institutional priorities and workforce demands. In addition to developing curriculum and learning outcomes, this role will recruit and prepare high-quality instructors, establish training standards and teaching resources, ensure instructional consistency across sections, and build a scalable model that supports enrollment growth while maintaining academic rigor and student impact across
UNC Chapel Hill.
* Expanding academic partnerships to integrate career education into the curriculum and student experiences, working collaboratively with Associate Deans, department chairs, and faculty to embed career competencies and industry-informed content into academic programs. In addition to strengthening individual departmental collaborations, this role designs scalable partnership models that ensure career education is integrated across all schools and academic programs at
UNC Chapel Hill.
* Directing faculty and staff training programs related to career education and career readiness, including the design, delivery, and assessment of professional development initiatives that equip instructors, advisors, and student-facing professionals to embed career competencies and career concepts into their courses and interactions. In addition to building institutional knowledge and capacity, this role creates sustainable training frameworks and tools that extend career education beyond the Career Center and into the broader campus ecosystem.
* Overseeing the Career Champions Network and its expansion to faculty and academic staff, establishing a structured engagement model that includes recruitment, onboarding, training, recognition, and assessment. In addition to growing participation, this role cultivates a university-wide community of practice that advances shared ownership of student career development and ensures consistent, high-quality career integration across the institution. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Master's or Bachelor's and 0-2 years' experience; or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution. |
| Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Required Experience
* Minimum of five (5) years of job-related experience (ex. experience in career development, faculty engagement, training & development, or academic partnerships).
* Proven track record of successfully collaborating across academic and administrative units.
* Strong ability to develop, manage, and evaluate large-scale programs.
* Experience collaborating with faculty and academic units.
* Analytical mind and problem solver with the ability to think strategically.
* Demonstrated leadership in building relationships and successful networks.
* Knowledge of and experience with program assessment.
* Demonstrated commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice and professional integrity.
* Ability to collaborate and foster a spirit of engagement.
* Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment.
* Ability to utilize technology in the delivery of programs and courses.

| Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Preferred Educational Qualifications
* Master's degree in Higher Education, Human Resources, Curriculum & Instruction, Organizational Development, Business, Education, or a related field.
Preferred Experience
* 7+ years of job-related experience (ex. experience in career development, faculty engagement, training & development, or academic partnerships).
* Proven experience in developing and scaling training programs and curriculum integration.
* Experience leading career course development at a university.
* Knowledge of and experience with course assessment.
* Familiarity with working in a centralized Career Center.
* Familiarity with learning management systems and instructional design principles.
* Budget management experience.
* Proven success navigating a matrixed organization.
* Experience leading change and innovation, resulting in a high level of performance outcomes.
* Experience managing educational programs and conducting program assessment.
* Strong ability to collaborate with multiple constituents to accomplish goals.
* Working knowledge of online recruiting systems (e.g., Handshake, People Grove, Symplicity, Forage, etc.)
This job requires a working knowledge of office related computer applications; advanced skills in program management and administration; advanced skills in leadership, organization, relationship development, communication, strategic planning, marketing/promotion, public speaking and teaching. |

| Campus Security Authority Responsibilities |
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities. |
