About the Job

At the University of Minnesota, we change lives through discovery, education, and outreach. The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is the University's largest central IT department, offering a mission-driven environment built on trust, collaboration, and a commitment to the public good.

We are seeking an Enterprise Application Administrator to administer our five Google Workspace domains. Supporting a massive community of over 100,000 students, faculty, staff, and alumni, you will play a pivotal role in optimizing the user experience by bridging the gap between our Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 collaboration environments.

You will manage the day-to-day operations of Google Workspace while driving cross-platform interoperability initiatives including identity lifecycle, device management, and security while also maintaining our critical Mail Transfer Agent (MTA) infrastructure running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 9. This position works with the Messaging & Calendar services team in an agile/scaled agile environment.

*Please note, this position is not eligible for H-1B or Green Card sponsorship.

Core Job Responsibilities:

  • Administer Google Workspace core services (Gmail, Drive, Calendar, etc.) while optimizing integration points with Microsoft 365. Define user roles, manage organizational units (OUs), and implement global sharing and security policies.
  • Contribute to planning for continuous service improvement projects, specifically targeting the friction points between disparate collaboration tools. Focus on technical feasibility, service stability, and a "user-first" approach to platform coexistence.
  • Lead technical implementation of small continuous service improvement projects, including minor changes to production systems with no or minimal service interruption.
  • Provide technical expertise in written and verbal forms to technical and non-technical staff and management as changes are being considered.
  • Maintain and optimize the University's MTA infrastructure on RHEL 9. Oversee complex email routing, relay services, and delivery troubleshooting at a massive scale.
  • Define and implement standards, techniques, tools, and monitoring to ensure the stability, availability, and performance of the systems.
  • Develop and maintain complex scripts and software (utilizing GAM, Python, and Google APIs) to automate repetitive tasks, manage bulk data operations, and integrate Google Workspace with other enterprise systems.
  • Act as the Tier 3 escalation point for Messaging and Calendar services. Lead small-to-medium-sized continuous improvement projects from technical design through production deployment.
  • Work closely with the security and identity management teams to ensure the overall security and policy compliance of the service.
Qualifications

*Please document qualifications on resume.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 2 years of related experience or master's degree.
  • Proven experience in Enterprise Collaboration Administration (Google Workspace and/or Microsoft 365).
  • Experience with Linux Systems Administration (specifically RHEL), including file system management and security hardening.
  • Proficiency in at least two scripting or programming languages (e.g., Python, Bash, JavaScript, PowerShell, etc.).
  • Google Cloud Professional Collaboration Engineer certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Experience managing high-volume email routing and security protocols (SPF, DKIM, DMARC).
  • Experience using command-line tools (like GAM) and APIs to manage cloud services at scale.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using a log management solution such as Splunk.
  • Familiarity with creating service health dashboards using Splunk, Looker, or tableau.
  • Experience with improving existing processes by introducing automation.
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) beyond Workspace (e.g., App Engine, Cloud Functions, or IAM).
  • Experience improving user experience by introducing automation to bridge "feature gaps" between Google and Microsoft platforms.
  • Experience with front end development such as HTML, CSS, and JS libraries/frameworks.
