Job Description:

The Criminal Justice - Trade & Industry Teacher will develop students' academic skills through academic courses of study and implements, monitors, and evaluates a quality competency-based program implementing district approved curriculum; documents teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addresses specific educational needs of students; provides feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc. This 10-month, 195 day Licensed position, reports to the High School Academic Principal.

Qualifications:



  • Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, or related field from an Accredited College or Univeristy. A Master's degree is preferred.


  • Certificates & Licenses: A Valid Virginia Department of Education License, or eligibility to obtain one is required. An endorsement in a specialized trade and industrial education area will be granted to individuals who have:



    • Been recommended by an employing Virginia educational agency;
    • A license or are certified as a professional practitioner in the endorsement area sought, if applicable, or can demonstrate competency in that area of trade and industrial education;
    • Evidence of at least two years or 4,000 clock hours of satisfactory occupational experience within the past five years in the teaching specialty for which they are seeking endorsement. Candidates whose occupational experience has not been within the last five years must participate in a supervised technical update related to the teaching specialty or area of endorsement or complete a supervised internship of work experience of not less than six weeks related to the area of endorsement or teaching specialty; and
    • Completed professional studies requirements (human growth and development: three semester hours; curriculum and instructional procedures in career and technical education: three semester hours; and applications of instructional technology or classroom and behavior management: three semester hours).
    • If an individual is seeking an initial license in the Commonwealth with an endorsement in the area of career and technical education, an industry certification credential, as defined in 8VAC20-22-10, in the area in which the teacher seeks endorsement is required. If a teacher seeking an initial license in the Commonwealth has not attained an industry certification credential in the area in which the teacher seeks endorsement, the board may, upon request of the employing school division or educational agency, issue the teacher a provisional license to allow time for the teacher to attain such credential.



  • Experience: Job related within specialized field with increasing levels of responsibility.



Essential Functions:



  • Develop and update lesson plans, course assignments and assessments based on the state criminal justice curriculum.
  • Provide opportunities for students to obtain work based experiences through collaboration with industry partners.
  • Collaborate with administration to identify and provide appropriate industry certification testing for students.
  • Organize career related activities such as industry speakers and field trips.
  • Plan student assignments to meet academic objectives and different learning styles.
  • Prepares a variety of written materials (grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student mastery.
  • Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments to provide an effective program that addresses individual student requirements.
  • Adapts classroom work to provide students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans.
  • Administers developmental testing programs, subject specific assessments, etc. to assess student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans.
  • Participates in a variety of meetings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress to communicate expectations and achievements and develop methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
  • Promotes communication with affiliating agency administration, staff, students, parents and clients.
  • Counsels students to promote optimal participation and performance.
  • Manages student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) to maintain personal safety of students, provide a positive learning environment and adhere to Education Code and school policies.
  • Maintain teacher certification as per requirements of the Virginia Department of Education.
  • Adhere to ACHS policies and regulations.
  • Adhere to affiliating agencies policies and regulations.
  • Maintain current industry related certifications required for the position.
  • May perform other additional duties or tasks as designated by supervisor.



Compensation:



  • Step Placement and Salary for this position is determined by The ACPS Teachers and Other Licensed Staff Salary Scale


  • Exempt position status - This position is classified as exempt, meaning it is not eligible for overtime pay under the Fair Labor Standards Act.



Clearances:



  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test.
  • Public Health Compliance - Must follow safety and health protocols.
