Pension Benefits Specialist Position Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented *Pension Benefits Specialist* to join our benefits administration team. This role is responsible for processing pension benefits, refunds, and death-related cases while ensuring compliance with plan provisions, policies, and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical skills, benefits administration experience, and the ability to accurately review complex documentation and member records.
Key Responsibilities * Review and process pension benefit applications, member refunds, and related transactions accurately and efficiently. * Calculate pension benefits and refunds in accordance with plan provisions and established procedures. * Manage death-related casework, including reviewing documentation, processing beneficiary claims, and updating member records. * Terminate member accounts in the system upon verification of reported deaths. * Research and identify beneficiaries, prepare correspondence, and distribute death benefit applications as needed. * Conduct detailed audits of returned documentation to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance. * Review disability applications and supporting documentation for eligibility determination. * Analyze and reconcile death vendor reports, ensuring accuracy across internal systems and records. * Evaluate legal documents, including trusts, estate documentation, powers of attorney, and beneficiary designations. * Perform peer reviews of calculations, documentation, and eligibility reports to maintain quality standards. * Communicate professionally with members, beneficiaries, attorneys, and other stakeholders to obtain required information and documentation. * Assist management with special projects, process improvements, and departmental initiatives. * Maintain strict adherence to plan provisions, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Qualifications Required * Experience in pension administration, benefits administration, retirement services, financial services, or a related field. * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail. * Experience reviewing and interpreting complex documentation. * Proficiency working with data, records, and business systems in a high-volume environment. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines. Preferred * Experience processing pension benefits, retirement plans, or benefit payments. * Knowledge of death claims administration and beneficiary processing. * Experience reviewing legal documents such as trusts, estates, and powers of attorney. * Experience in auditing, quality review, or compliance-focused work. * Experience conducting research and investigative work, including beneficiary tracing. * Familiarity with vendor report reconciliation and data validation processes.
