The Department of Biology in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a RAMP One Health WV Mentee.

About the Opportunity

This position will serve as a mentee in our NSF RaMP program. They will work in a molecular lab setting to study biological correlates of disease from the environment. They will receive training in laboratory and sampling methods.

What You'll Do

  • Laboratory bench work and field sampling, including PCR, DNA extraction, genome sequencing, microbiological culture methods, water and/or wastewater testing.
  • Participation in program events, including weekly and monthly meetings, periodic presentation of working results, training sessions.
  • Preparation of results for presentation at the program annual retreat, both poster and oral.

Pay Grade: 15

Qualifications
  • BS or BA in biology, microbiology, environmental science, or related field.
  • 0-6 month of research experience.
  • Must have been accepted through the NSF ETAP portal to be considered.
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

  • Ability to work independently.
  • Data analysis and interpretation skills.
  • Ability to work with collaborators.
  • Presentation of work both informally and formally.
  • Use of lab notebook for record keeping.
