Mechanical Engineering Designer, MEP, San Antonio or Houston, TX

Halff is looking for an experienced CADD Designer to support our Mechanical Engineering department in San Antonio or Houston, TX . The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience with HVAC air and hydronic concepts and must be capable of performing routine calculations, equipment layout, basic equipment under supervision of senior staff. The Mechanical Designer is responsible for designing, drafting, and coordinating mechanical engineering projects. This role involves creating detailed design plans, collaborating with engineering teams, and ensuring that all projects meet technical standards and regulatory requirements. What you will do:



  • Responsible for creating and maintaining detailed technical drawings for mechanical engineering projects, ensuring accuracy and adherence to industry standards.
  • Collaborate with engineers, supporting project documentation, and contributing to quality control and continuous improvement efforts within the design team.
  • Provide basic design and layout of HVAC air and hydronic systems.
  • Set-up drawing sheets in REVIT, develop equipment schedules, and run basic calculations.
  • Assist in estimated project construction cost and specification writing.
  • Lead the preparation of conceptual designs and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure project feasibility and alignment with client specifications.
  • Manage multiple civil engineering projects simultaneously, adhering to strict deadlines and regulatory requirements.


What you will need:



  • A minimum of 2 years of experience designing HVAC and hydronic systems.
  • Experience with Trane Trace 3D and a working knowledge of IMC and other related codes required.
  • Associates Degree in related field is required; Bachelor's degree is a plus.
  • Advanced proficiency in CADD software, including Revit, with a proven ability to create and review high-quality design plans.
  • Strong analytical skills for interpreting survey data and performing complex calculations related to grading, drainage, and utilities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and documenting design changes.
  • Project management skills to oversee multiple civil engineering projects, ensuring timely completion and adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) for documentation and reporting.
  • Comprehensive understanding of engineering principles, design practices, and relevant codes and standards.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with industry trends, regulations, and emerging technologies.
  • Attention to detail and precision in all aspects of design and documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing project requirements and priorities.
  • Creative problem-solving skills to identify and resolve design issues efficiently.
  • Collaborative mindset, able to work effectively within a team and coordinate with clients, regulatory authorities, and project stakeholders.
