Maintenance and Engineering Technician

LOCATION: DeForest, WI

SUMMARY: Use experience and skills to troubleshoot, repair, adjust and maintain manufacturing and ancillary equipment. This person will, at times, assist the Plant Engineer in the planning, directing and coordinating of the activities concerned with the Engineering and Maintenance departments. This position will entail a more hands on approach to projects and will also require an in-depth knowledge of sound electrical or mechanical engineering and trade practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Troubleshoot, repair, adjust and maintain manufacturing and ancillary equipment, hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, electrical and electronic systems.
• Possess the ability to use monitoring and testing equipment to facilitate troubleshooting, repairing, adjusting, and maintaining of manufacturing and ancillary equipment.
• Training
• Identify and develop maintenance training programs in all process areas.
• Identify targeted training for individuals in the department and validate training with audits.
• Maintenance programs
• Identify and develop new and current equipment PMs.
• Develop annual audit PMs for different process and infrastructure areas.
• Evaluate equipment for obsolescence and upgrade options.
• Process Improvements and Capital
• Track maintenance downtime and develop improvement plans for each area.
• Work with Plant Engineers on equipment improvements plans and capital execution.
• Help with the execution of new equipment installations.
• Manpower
• Work with maintenance technicians as needed to execute planned work.
• Work with contractors as part of capital and non-capital projects
• Responsible for working safely.
• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Two-year certificate from college or technical school with a focus in machining and/or electronics and three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and hear, taste or smell. This position may require manual lifting not to exceed 50 lbs - reference your department-specific JHA (job hazard analysis) for departmental lifting restrictions.
