Position Description

The Simons Center for Quantitative Biology (SCQB) at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) seeks to hire a junior faculty member who will pursue a bold and innovative research program at the interface of biology and artificial intelligence (BioAI). This is the first of multiple BioAI faculty searches that will be carried out as part of CSHL's Foundations for the Future campus expansion project.

All applicants whose work would contribute to advancing biological knowledge through machine learning or other quantitative/computational methods are encouraged to apply, including those whose primary training is in machine learning or allied fields. We will consider a broad range of early-career researchers. Postdoctoral fellows, junior faculty at other institutions, and industry researchers transitioning to academic research will be considered for appointment as an Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. Wet lab space is available for candidates who will pursue experimental work as an integral component of their research program. The environment at CSHL is highly collaborative, and candidates should consider how their research would strengthen the SCQB and CSHL more broadly: CSHL has long-standing strengths in neuroscience, molecular genetics, cancer biology, and plant biology, while the SCQB has existing expertise in GenomicAI and NeuroAI.

CSHL is a world-renowned research and educational institution located on the North Shore of Long Island, New York. The highly ranked School of Biological Sciences at CSHL trains PhD students, including through a recently launched BioAI PhD program. CSHL also has a partnership with nearby Stony Brook University that allows PhD students there to do thesis research in CSHL labs. The successful candidate will receive a comprehensive start-up package that includes initial funding, salary, benefits, and access to exceptional on-site daycare. They will also benefit from a supportive mentoring environment, a powerful high-performance compute cluster, innovative core facilities, and access to the many scientific seminars, conferences, and courses run through the CSHL Meetings & Courses Program.
