Primary Purpose of Position
The Center for Energy Research and Technology collaborates with industry, labor, education, government, and community leaders who create and expand access to energy research and energy related work-based education programs for people.
The Project Manager (PM) will coordinate technical work supporting the energy center. The PM will also oversee the day-to-day work of the CERT affiliated NC A&T research students working in this focus-area on a variety of programs. The PM will support technical needs for advanced educational technology involving including all aspects of research and technical writing. The PM will analyze IT and business systems problems, offer technical and analytical support, and supervise staff and students while providing training and education in energy research. (S)He serves as the connection point between current and emerging technologies, best practices in online pedagogy, instructional design, technology training, and student learning. The PM will collaborate with faculty, staff, students, administration, and academic leaders both at NC A&T and with our Partners to promote effective research technology integration, ensuring optimal performance and user support. The PM will be active in grant writing activities that support CERT and managing the graduate students. This position is a full-time time position. The Project Manager of Energy Research will support the CERT Director's primary responsibilities which include developing the Center's overall research agenda; identifying potential new research topics and building teams to pursue research opportunities and prepare analytic papers and policy briefs; conducting original research; organizing issue-focused meetings, conferences, and other events to inform the academic and public community about the Center's research agenda and accomplishments; and, communicating research ndings to a range of audiences toward shaping public policy. The PM must be motivated yet exible, diplomatic, creative, trustworthy, a good team player, and must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
The PM shall provide assistance to the director's strategic and executive leadership of the Center for Energy Research and Technology ( CERT), and will report directly to the center's director. The PM will assist the center's Director for the administration and management of ongoing operations of CERT and its programs and resources; development and coordination of independent, interdisciplinary, and cooperative research programs; forecasting and identication of new potential lines of research in cooperation with industry and other research stakeholders; establishment of research priorities; oversight and management of the budget; formulation of long and short range plans for use of human and nancial resources; development, maintenance, and improvement of critical laboratory facilities; generation of external grant and contract support to supplement the base budget of CERT; reporting of activities of CERT and the results of its research; promotion and maintenance of effective relations with the community and government; and maintenance of productive administrative relations at North Carolina A&T State University ( NCA& TSU) and with other units of the University of North Carolina system.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
N.C. A&T is a public, land-grant, doctoral research institution and has been the largest historically Black university in the country for the past decade. With an enrollment of 14,311 students in Fall 2024, the university offers 59 undergraduate degree programs, 36 master's programs, and 12 doctoral programs. It is America's top producer of Black graduates in Engineering and Agricultural Science bachelor's programs, as well as a top five producer in numerous additional disciplines, including Liberal Arts and Communications/Journalism. It also ranks no. 3 in master's degrees awarded to Black graduates in Engineering Technologies and Related Fields, no. 4 in master's degrees in Engineering, and no. 11 best business school for women in the nation.

The College of Engineering ( COE), with over 2,500 students, has 5 Doctoral programs, 8 Masters of Science Degree programs, and EAC ABET accredited undergraduate programs in Architectural, Bio-, Biological, Civil, Chemical, Computer, Electrical, Industrial, and Mechanical Engineering, as well as a CAC ABET-accredited program Computer Science. The College's focus is on cultivating leaders who excel in academics, innovation, and research; where the 5 research cluster areas of the COE are Autonomous Systems, Cybersecurity and Resilience, Energy and Sustainability, Healthcare Applications and Complex Systems and Networks. The Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering ( CAEE) Department within the College of Engineering is a uniquely interdisciplinary association of faculty and students with complementary interests and expertise. The CAEE Department is committed to quality teaching, research and advising. The department takes great pride in preparation of students to excel in their professional careers. The department encompasses two undergraduate programs: Civil Engineering Architectural Engineering.

The Center for Energy Research and Technology (C.E.R.T.) at North Carolina A&T State University is an interdisciplinary energy research center, designed to foster collaborative research and development of new energy-related technologies; and to aid existing infrastructures in improving their energy utilization. Grounded in engineering and built-environment sciences, C.E.R.T. focuses on basic and applied research, outreach, extension, and education activities relating to renewable energy, energy eciency, alternative fuels and vehicle technologies, sustainable green building, and the environment.
Minimum Requirements
Master's Degree in related field and at least 3 years' experience in the industry utilizing related skills Or Doctorate and 1 year experience utilizing related skills. All degrees must be received from properly accredited institutions.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
* A Ph.D. in Engineering, or a eld relevant to renewable energy utilization, from a regionally accredited university
* A minimum of four-years of experience, within a public or private applied research facility
* Experience with administration and budgetary experience
* Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
* A demonstrated commitment to equal opportunity and multicultural issues
* Demonstrated support of the academic and research mission of a land grant university
* A record of working effectively with a unique and multi-disciplinary faculty, staff, student body and other units of the University
* Demonstrated problem solving ability, and ability to look ahead and identify developing areas

* Experience in protecting intellectual property, including negotiating instruments to commercialize research, such as patents, licenses, sales, and royalty agreements
* A record of administrative support for the importance of teaching, advising, scholarship, and applied research
* Experience and knowledge in natural resource sciences or engineering, renewable energy, and/or water quality industries
* Experience in connecting research facilities and professionals with students and the business community to create productive, collaborative business environments
* A record of promoting and increasing differences

PhD in Engineering field with energy research background
