Under supervision of the Small Animal Specialties supervisor, provide paraveterinary technical and nursing support for a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Provide instruction to students, clinicians and staff. Use proper techniques for restraint and handling of patients, administering treatments, and obtaining a variety of diagnostic samples. Maintain equipment, facility stocking, cleaning, and maintenance.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
- Must possess a Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) or obtain within 3 months of date of hire.
- No minimum education required.
- Experience working in a small animal hospital assisting with medical procedures.
- Experience using safe animal handling and restraint techniques for a wide variety of small animal patients.
- Experience working as an animal health technician in a small animal clinical setting, including safe patient handling and restraint for diagnostic procedures, sample collection, transport, as well as experience in obtaining biological samples.
- Experience calculating and administering dosages of medications including placing IV catheters for administration of fluids and medications.
- Interpersonal skills to work with a diverse group of people including clients, clinicians, students and staff.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience obtaining a variety of biological samples and experience in aseptic technique and working in an operating room.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and disease processes.
- Skill to assist in the performance of veterinary medical treatments and procedures.
- Experience setting up for and assisting in surgical procedures.

Work Environment
