Job Description
Primary Purpose Develops and leads advanced engineering work for large or highcomplexity control systems. Applies deep expertise to innovate solutions, guide system architecture, and influence engineering direction.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Architects and develops control system designs that integrate advanced automation technologies.
- Solves multifaceted system problems by analyzing hardware, software, and process interactions.
- Leads crossfunctional design reviews and secures alignment on system strategy and implementation.
- Develops sophisticated test plans and verification strategies for new or significantly modified systems.
- Advises on control system risk mitigation strategies, including redundancy and safety features.
- Evaluates new technologies and recommends integration approaches for improved performance.
- Provides engineering guidance to project teams and mentors colleagues from multiple disciplines.
- Negotiates design solutions and technical tradeoffs with stakeholders, communicating impacts clearly.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- Requires a 4 year degree in a relevant engineering field.
Experience
- Requires 8 years of related experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Required: Automation System Integration - Integrates automation technologies such as programmable controllers, operator interfaces, and supervisory systems to ensure stable and compliant industrial operations.
- Required: Control Logic Design - Develops accurate and reliable control sequences that support process needs, equipment behavior, and production performance across automated environments.
- Required: Advanced Troubleshooting - Diagnoses faults in sensors, communication links, logic execution, and system components by analyzing symptoms, field data, and equipment behavior.
- Required: Commissioning Execution - Performs system commissioning through calibration, functional testing, and performance verification to confirm systems operate according to specifications and safety requirements.
- Required: Safety Control Application - Implements safety functions such as interlocks, shutdown logic, and emergency stops to maintain compliance with industrial safety expectations.
- Required: Technical Drawing Interpretation - Reads and produces engineering diagrams, layouts, and system documents to ensure accurate installation, testing, and maintenance of controlsystem equipment.
- Required: CrossFunctional Collaboration - Works with electrical, mechanical, and operational teams to align controlsystem tasks with production schedules, equipment constraints, and project requirements.
- Required: System Upgrade and Optimization - Enhances system performance by updating configurations, refining logic, and implementing improvements that increase reliability and throughput.
- Required: Risk and Impact Assessment - Evaluates technical, operational, and safety risks associated with system changes or failures and recommends mitigation actions that protect operations.
- Required: Field Work Coordination - Organizes and sequences onsite activities such as installation, calibration, and testing to support safe, efficient execution in active industrial environments.
Licenses and Certifications
- Required: Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the state of California is required.
