SmithGroup is looking for aSenior Technical Experiential Graphic Designerto join our team.



Working with us you will:



  • Lead and mentor a team of designers in the development and production of experiential graphics and signage projects by advancing conceptual designs into resolved production-ready solutions.
  • Spearhead the production of comprehensive design intent documentation sets including technical detail drawings, location plans, message schedules, and project specifications. Ensure rigorous quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) standards are met.
  • Maintain documentation standards and quality control throughout project development.
  • Collaborate effectively within our integrated firm, across all disciplines, following standard protocols and workflows established.
  • Identify risks early in the design process and develop practical solutions while maintaining design integrity.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for construction administration, leading coordination with fabricators, managing RFIs, and upholding the highest standards of installation quality.
  • Collaborate with the Director and/or Project Manager to write scopes of work and manage project budgets, staffing hours, and schedules across the discipline.
  • Manage priorities across multiple concurrent projects and across multiple time zones.
  • Provide guidance and training to junior staff on projects.



The ideal candidate has:



  • A bachelor's degree in graphic design, industrial design, interior design, architecture or equivalent.
  • Minimum 15 years of profesionnal experience with strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end involvement in experiential graphic design, signage, and wayfinding projects.
  • Experience working within an architectural firm or multidisciplinary design practice.
  • Project experience in education, healthcare, civic, government, cultural, or corporate environments.
  • Proven expertise in preparing detailed drawing packages for EGD and signage projects, including location plans, message schedules, elevations, and comprehensive documentation.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to oversee and deliver multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills to coordinate effectively with architecture, interiors, and fabrication teams.
  • Advanced proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, CADTools, Sketchup/Rhino/other 3D modeling software, Enscape, Revit, BIM 360, and Bluebeam.
  • Advanced proficiency in material specifications, sustainable materials a plus.
  • Expertise in ADA signage requirements and accessibility standards.

While we may ultimately pay more or less than a posted salary range, at the time of posting the anticipated salary range for this position is $104,000 to $123,000 annually and you are eligible for a performance-based bonus each year.
