What to Expect
We are looking for a highly motivated controls engineer specialized in creating and maintaining PLC and software code to integrate with Tesla's backend systems. This position is the perfect blend of Controls Engineering and Software Engineering; your code will be deployed across thousands of PLCs and many services within our fleet. You will join a small, expert team building the middleware and PLC foundational blocks that is used to manufacture our cars, robots, superchargers, and energy storage. The ideal candidate will have a passion for understanding PLC logic, creating and maintaining function blocks and should be an expert in Ladder Logic and Structured Text programming, as well as being very knowledgeable with high-level programming languages such as Python and Golang.

What You'll Do
  • Architect, write and maintain PLC code that is well organized, documented, maintainable and re-usable
  • Consistently produce high-quality code that is maintainable and solves real-world problems
  • Maintain and debug existing programs, function blocks and scripts
  • Use machine data to improve OEE with focus on real-time feedback and ingestion of high throughput data
  • Support maintenance team in troubleshooting downtime and doing root cause analysis
  • Manage change control with cross functional teams and validation with PLC fleet
  • Interface with multi-disciplinary teams including Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain
  • Participate in on-call rotation for incident troubleshooting and support (approximately one week every 2 months)

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent majors - Mechatronic Engineering, Automation Engineering, etc. or the equivalent in experience
  • Minimum two years of working experience (preferred 4+ years)
  • Minimum one year of experience maintaining and developing PLC code with Structured Text
  • Minimum six months of experience in Python, Go Lang, Java or equivalent
  • Experience working with SCADA and HMI like Ignition, WinCC or TCHMI
  • Experience working with PLCs: Beckoff, Siemens or Allen Bradley
  • Experience in networks communications like EtherCAT, EIP, Profinet, Databases
  • Comfortable working with source control systems such as Git

    Expected Compensation
    $104,000 - $156,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
