As a Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (RN), a typical day may include:

  • Preparing women, and their families, for the stages of giving birth and helping patients with breastfeeding after the baby is born

  • Monitoring the baby's heart rate and mother's blood pressure, timing of contractions, helping to administer medications and epidurals, identifying and assisting with complications, aiding in inducing labor and preparing new mothers for before, during and after pregnancy

  • Administering intrapartum medications in a safe and effective manner, including tocolytics, oxytocin, magnesium sulfate, and insulin

  • Performing bedside urine testing

  • Utilizing aseptic techniques and infection control principles in all aspects of care

  • Handling instruments in a safe and effective manner

  • Performing triage assessment

  • Providing intrapartum care as outlined in orientation competencies

  • Recognizes abnormal signs in mother and/or fetus and institutes appropriate nursing actions

  • Demonstrating understanding of role during the delivery process

  • Providing care for the patient experiencing an operative delivery, including serving in the circulatory and scrub roles

  • Applying principles of thermoregulation in the care of the newborn

  • Assuring proper identification of medications transferred from non-sterile to sterile field and more

To be considered for this RN opportunity, you must hold an active New Jersey Registered Nurse license in good standing and a current American Heart Association BLS certification. A bachelor's degree in nursing is strongly preferred, as is an ACLS Certification, NRP Certification, Intermediate EFM, two years recent or current L&D experience, and comfort with electronic medical record systems (EMR) like EPIC. This position offers a night shift schedule and 36 working hours weekly, allowing you to build strong patient relationships while maintaining balance.
