Your role with us As a Speech Therapist in Salem Health's Inpatient Rehabilitation unit at our West Valley Hospital, you play a critical role in helping patients regain essential communication and swallowing abilities-skills that directly impact their independence, safety, and quality of life. Your work supports recovery from complex medical conditions through personalized, evidence-based care, while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless, patient-centered treatment. This position is vital to optimizing outcomes, reducing hospital stays, and empowering patients and families during a vulnerable time in their healing journey.
What you'll do
- Conduct comprehensive, evidence-based evaluations tailored to patient diagnoses and needs
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans with measurable, functional goals
- Collaborate with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams (OT, PT, nursing, etc.)
- Document care accurately and timely to support skilled services and billing requirements
- Manage caseload efficiently and respond to department needs
- Coordinate care and discharge planning, addressing barriers and patient resources
- Maintain compliance with regulatory, licensure, and documentation standards
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives and ongoing professional development
- Provide exceptional patient experience through compassionate, clear communication
- Supervise and delegate tasks to clinical fellows and therapy aides as appropriate
Background/experience
- Master's degree in speech-language pathology/communication sciences and disorders is required.
- Clinical experience in the practice area is required. (This could be as a SLP, as a clinical fellow or as a clinical rotation student)
- Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology awarded by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association is required.
- License to practice Speech-Language Pathology in the state of Oregon is required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of hire is required.
