Description

University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus

Department: Medicine

Job Title: Postdoctoral Fellow

Position #: 00806505 - Requisition #: 28868

Job Summary:

A postdoctoral position is immediately available in the joint laboratory of Dr. Shaikh Atif and Dr. Michael Falta in the Division of Allergy and Clinical Immunology in the Department of Medicine at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. The Department of Medicine provides an excellent research environment and state of the art research facilities. The Atif-Falta laboratory is looking for a talented postdoctoral fellow to work on projects exploring the innate and adaptive cellular and molecular pathways involved in the immunopathology of pulmonary diseases including sarcoidosis and chronic beryllium disease. Research will include working with humanized transgenic murine models of disease and may utilize human blood and bronchoalveolar lavage samples. In the past several years, findings from the lab have been published in the Journal of Experimental Medicine, Journal of Clinical Investigation, JCI Insight, and European Respiratory Journal.

Key Responsibilities:

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our research team which is involved in examining the role of innate and adaptive immune cells in sarcoidosis and chronic beryllium disease. The successful candidate will:

  • exploit cutting-edge technologies including multi-omics approaches (e.g., RNA-seq, single-cell seq, and CITE-seq), multicolor flow cytometry and fluorescence imaging in addressing scientific questions that require a combination of basic science and clinical translational research skills.
  • work in a multidisciplinary research environment to develop pipelines for analyzing large transcriptomic and T cell receptor sequencing data and lung image data.
  • work with mouse models of human disease that involve breeding, genotyping, treatment (intravenous, intranasal, intratracheal), harvesting, and processing of organs.
  • perform assays to assess the adaptive immune responses in mouse disease models. These include ELISPOT, ELISA and T cell proliferation assays.
  • have the opportunity to participate in other ongoing research projects including antigen discovery studies. This includes identifying candidate disease-relevant T cell receptors, constructing T cell hybridomas using standard molecular biology techniques, and working with synthetic positional scanning peptide libraries, peptide mixtures and peptide deconvolution strategies to identify stimulatory T cell mimotopes and epitopes.
  • be responsible for the timely completion of projects and accurate recording of work in lab notebooks and computer databases.
  • participate and present data in weekly lab meetings and periodic meetings with the PIs to discuss research progress and career goals.
  • be involved in the maintenance and cleaning of lab workspaces including proper care of instrumentation.
  • build a thorough knowledge of scientific developments in the field by reading scientific articles and participating in conferences.
  • contribute to writing and editing scientific manuscripts as a first or co-author.
  • apply for postdoctoral fellowships, training grants and other supplemental funding in support of their independent projects with the consent of PIs.
