The Pedodontist is responsible for the delivery of quality and efficient pediatric dental care to the health center's pediatric patient population.

The Dental Team at Mary's Center is currently seeking full-time, part-time and per diem Pedodontists to rotate at our 3 dental clinics.

Reportability

This position will report directly to the Executive Vice President of Dental Services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.



  • Complete routine and comprehensive oral examinations.
  • Maintain high quality dental care.
  • Deliver fillings, endodontics, extractions.
  • Diagnose dental disease, oral pathology, biopsies and develop a written treatment plan and prioritize treatments.
  • Provide ongoing dental education.


  • Be thorough in documenting all interventions done with/on behalf of the patient.
  • Oversee the dental hygienist and the dental assistant on duty.
  • Consult on the purchase of dental equipment.
  • Work in tandem with the other members of the health care team to ensure best practices in the delivery of dental services and the other services offered at Mary's Center.
  • Treat the patient with moderate to severe dental infections on an emergency basis.


  • Participate in agency-wide and clinical meetings as needed.
  • Provide dental care for those with disabilities and/or behavioral problems.
  • Provide dental care for infants, children, and adolescents.
  • Fabricate space maintainers designed for patients.
  • Treat primary & secondary teeth and constructs places bridges, dentures and obturating appliances suitable for growing arches.


  • Counsel and advise patients and family members on growth development dental problems of patient.
  • Provide preventive services through use of fluorides and sealants and instructs patient and family members on dental care.


Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Education and/or Experience - Qualified candidates must have completion of ADA accredited dental program; DDS/DMD degree; certification through DEA; and valid Washington DC or Maryland License. Candidates must have completed a Postgraduate Pediatric Dental program. Some ability to speak Spanish preferred.

Physical Demands - Regularly required to sit; frequently required to reach with hands and arms, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear; must be able to lift objects up to twenty-five (25) pounds.

Work Environment - Typical dental clinical setting. Regulated temperature. Exposed to sounds associated with usual dental treatment.
