The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary

The Center for Radiological Research is seeking a technician to work with scientists studying the health hazards and antimicrobial efficacy of ultraviolet light. The Technician will work with 2D and 3D cell culture models, viral and bacterial culture and assay techniques, and ultraviolet experimental equipment. They will gain experience in immunohistochemistry, animal handling and husbandry, and ultraviolet exposure techniques.

Responsibilities



  • Training and performing work with animal models and human tissue
  • Environmental air sampling
  • Performing real-time PCR and other basic molecular biology techniques and related analysis methods.
  • Maintaining and sharing records, completing scientific and technical tasks in a timely fashion, and helping to maintain a smoothly functioning laboratory
  • Ordering Lab Supplies and maintaining inventory as needed
  • Performing related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested


This will be a team effort requiring excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Maintaining and sharing records with the team is expected, in addition to completing scientific and technical tasks in a timely fashion. The primary work location will be at the Radiological Research Accelerator Facility at the Columbia University Nevis Laboratories in Irvington, NY. Occasional work at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center may be required.

Minimum Qualifications




  • Requires a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics, or related science or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.




Preferred Qualifications




  • Some laboratory experience is preferred, especially familiarity with cell culture techniques and immunofluorescence. This position works with: Chemicals Cell culture Ultraviolet Radiation.




Other Requirements




  • Must have general knowledge of cellular and molecular biology.
