- The Blood Bank Technologist has responsibility for technical and regulatory oversight in the Transfusion Services.
- Demonstrates knowledge, skills and performs the duties of a Blood Bank Technologist I.
- Responsible for system standardization within the Transfusion Services.
- Responsible for technical and regulatory oversight including AABB and CAP checklists, document control of policies and procedures, materials management functions, review of quality control records, proficiency testing results to include review and investigation documentation.
- Participates in off-site AABB/CAP inspections, hospital committee meetings, external teaching opportunities and professional association presentations.
- Responsible for staff coaching and educational follow-ups for technical deficiencies to include Risk Management incident report documentation.
- Responsible for instrument performance, Quality Control, maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Available for critical staffing needs such as MTPs, LOA and call-outs.
- Responsible for management of all blood products - including ordering, maintaining adequate inventory and component prep functions.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
- Must submit to a color-acuity screening test.
- One (1) year experience in a clinical laboratory
- Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution and applicants must be eligible for an appropriate certification examination.
- Acceptable certifying agencies include: ASCP, NCA, AMT, AAB, HHS (HEW)
OR
- Associates Degree in laboratory science (Chemical or Biological Science) or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution and certification as a Medical Technologist.
- Acceptable certifying agencies include: ASCP, NCA, AMT, AAB, HHS (HEW)
OR
- Graduate of a Military Program in Science (health science, biology, chemical, physical, medical technology) and certification as a Medical Technologist.
- Acceptable certifying agencies include ASCP, NCA, AMT, AAB, HHS (HEW)
OR
- Grandfathered Medical Technologist by having previously qualified as a technologist on or before February 28, 1992 and current certification as a Medical Technologist.
- Acceptable certifying agencies include ASCP, NCA, AMT, AAB, HHS (HEW)
- Ability to implement and perform clinical laboratory procedures according to proper standards and regulations.
